What is a Science Slam?
A science slam is a scientific talk where scientists present their own scientific research work in a given time frame - usually 10 minutes - in front of a non-expert audience. The focus lies on teaching current science to a diverse audience in an entertaining way. The presentation is judged by the audience. A science slam is a form of science communication.
I participated for the first time at a Science Slam for the anniversary of the MPI-DS. As per the rules, I drew a number to show which presentation slot I would get. I picked number 1 (historically the worst slot to get). However, the audience really liked my enthusiasm and the presentation I gave around "Shining Light on the Heart: Figuratively and Literally". Afterwards, by means of applause, the winner was announced. And it was me!!! I received a bottle of Champagne as a prize, which you can see underneath.
