For our summer holiday we went back to Asia, but this time with a specific purpose: visit the largest cave system in the world in Phong Nha Ke Bang, Vietnam. The caves were an incredible adventure! We combined this trekking with a trip through the North and Center of the country, absorbing the culture, the cooking, and the scorching sun. Rice terrasses could also not be missing from our trip, and a trekking in Pu Long including homestays went above and beyond our wildest dreams.
We spent three full weeks in South Korea, travelling all around from North to South and East to West. Immersing ourselves in the culture but also most definitely in the beautiful nature the country has to offer. With two three-day treks we even earned ourselves a medal! Although it's not a standard travel destination, I feel like it should be!
I continued my journey in Colombia where Grace joined me. We made a tour throughout the middle and eastern part of the country, including watching the freylejones, enjoying mandarin juice, a trekking to The Lost City, and the islands that were once home to Pablo Escobar.
I spent one week in Peru, with the sole purpose of seeing the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu. But not just like that. I wanted to earn it and did a 5-day long trekking over the Salkantay pass to get there. Together with an incredible international group, I spent 5 awesome days to end up at one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.
During the summer of 2022, Grace and I went on another hiking holiday, this time to explore the small country of Albania. During a week-long trek through the mountains we did a day with 2000 elevation meters (1000 up, 1000 down), swam in ice-cold mountain water, and saw fjord-like lakes. This was all done in the blistering sun which was ever present.
During the winter of 2022, we visited our traditional skiing resort of Sankt Anton am Arlberg. A beautiful village in Tirol that has lots of good snow and a wide variety of backcountry skiing options. It was the first time skiing for Grace in real mountains.
In Februari, the six nations rugby tournament took place as per usual. Grace and I decided to go watch a game in Paris and couple it to a small citytrip. From Montmartre to the catacombs and of course the Eiffel tower, the French capital brought us a sparkle of magic.
During the summer of 2021, Grace and I went on our first hiking holiday together. We did a sporty walking tour through the most beautiful landscapes of East and West Madeira (Portugal), along levadas, ridges, the coasts and over the high peaks of "the flower island". This volcanic island is located about 600 km from the African continent and it rises steeply from the ocean with volcanic peaks reaching up to 1800 meters above sea level. We walked from high mountains to subtropical ocean coasts in just a few hours. A trip to remember!
During the winter of 2019, I decided to learn surfing and booked myself a two-week trip to Bali. In Solid Surf Camp I learned the basics of surfing while enjoying the Indonesian culture, relaxing vibes and food.
For the family holiday of the 2017 summer, we decided to take a look at part of the Baltic states. In specific we did a multi-activity trip through Estonia and Latvia, combining sightseeing with hiking, biking, rowing etc.
During the summer of 2016, my dad decided it was time to take the family to one of my mom's dream destinations: Iceland. We did a two week drive around the island, taking in all the various nature views. We saw black beaches, volcanoes, whales and hotsprings. Every day felt like you were in a different country!
During the summer of 2015, my family and I went to the Western part of Ireland to walk around the Dingle peninsula on a week-long trek. During this trip we saw the coasts of Ireland, enjoyed the cozy towns, and learned the sports of Gaelic football and hurling.
